A Genuine Review of iWriter.com

I recently joined iWriter and thus can give a genuine review of how the site functions. One thing about iWriter is that joining is very simple. It's actually the easiest I have encountered in the three years I have worked as a freelance writer. All you have to do is to go to their site, click on the registration link and sign up with your name, email address, preferred username, and password and you are done. No tests or submission of samples.

iWriter's system works such that writers are grouped into three: standard, premium and elite. All writers at iWriter, regardless of their writing ability, start at the standard level. A writer's level can be upgraded upon receiving a minimum of 30 reviews with an average feedback rating of 4.0. This basically means that to move to the next level you should have completed a minimum of 30 orders. This is not a simple feat as requesters (clients) can reject your articles for no reason. So it's possible to write even a 100 articles before you can be upgraded. Worst of all, one is not given a chance to revise an article. And then there are the perennial low-raters-requesters who will not rate you well regardless of the quality of an article.

At iwriter.com things only get better as you move up the ranks. As a standard level writer the rates are too low to motivate one to write. The pay for a 500 word article is 2.43. Considering that one is not given an opportunity to revise an order in case of any problems, that is a very low rate.

So far I have written 5 articles and earned $7.7. All the articles have been approved but I still do not feel motivated to write.Mostly because I have access to better paying writing gigs.  If you do not have access to other paid writing gigs, I recommend  you try iWriter.com. It's also a good place to gauge your writing skills as the requesters themselves choose to accept or reject an article based on the quality. However, this is not always the case-there are as many genuine requesters at iWriter.com as there are scammers.

iWriter also seems to block some IP addresses. There are times when I cannot access their website. In such cases I get a '403 forbidden' error. At other times I access the site without experiencing any problems. In case you ever encounter such as problem, try to change your IP address and all will be well.

My verdict on the site. The site is a genuine site that links clients to writers. I would advise one to join the site only if confident about his/her writing skills. If you believe that you have good writing skills and you encounter rejection, do not give up. Rejections appear to be the norm rather than the exception at iWriter.com. Just try to avoid clients who have a low approval rate as the chances of your article being rejected are very high. As for paying, I am yet to reach the minimum payout ($20) and so I cannot confidently say that they do pay.

All the best if you decide to sign up with them.

  1. Great insight. It is true about the approvals. If your language is good and skills are okay, the probability of approval stands at 50% so prepare to write 60 articles before premium level. It is also good to have other accounts like myams.net where pay is low but assured as a fall back plan. The important thing however is to keep ur eyes open for greater opportunities.

  4. Iwriter.com is legitimate, I write for them fairly frequently. Rejections have never been the norm for any requestor unless he has a high rejection rate, which is clear from the requestor's stats.
You can get a higher pay rate by developing relationships with specific requestors who like the work often enough to start sending you regular assignments.
You are right that one should avoid writing for requestors with a poor score, since writers tend to give them a score equivalent to how the requestor rated the writer.

  5. iWriter is by no means a bad place to get started writing as a freelancer. The interface is smooth (which is great) and the sign up process is also extremely easy.

Like Tamara said, the best way to earn is to get acquainted with a wide range of content requestors. They trust you, you trust them. That's the key.

The community is also growing, which should make it a great place for people who need content, and writers.

  6. Yes Chrono you are right! This is the place where you can start your own career in writing. You can avoid negative feedbacks if you pick those topics with a high approval rate. However, just don't let your guard down because most requester are a bit jerk.

Just read all the instructions and other important details you need to complete the article.

  7. For me, Iwriter.com has been an awesome platform. I have 22 favorite writers and I keep receiving special requests. I enjoy writing and always strive to give my best. I like the fact that I don't have to bid. There is room for growth as you keep honing your writing skills. I am a student and this makes me really humbled.

  8. iWriter has changed much in the last few months. Now it allows rewriting of articles as well as requesting for eBooks.

The problem with a few bad eggs in the iWriter requester community continues. Authors often get ignored in the melee. There have been instances where iWriter was shown proof of rejected articles being used on websites, and nothing was done to stem that trend.

But, I still love iWriter for what it is. And, recently wrote a really long article about it :)

  9. Hello…what is the fun of sitting at home and working all alone on an impersonal machine? I am a very social person and like to get out and mingle. Maybe you should try some more, to convince a person like me to give up a day job. There are wonderful blogs on sites like www.gricree.com, sell and buy brochures,Freelance Jobs online which speak highly of work-from-home freelancers. I find them quite interesting to read. I will keep freelancing work for a rainy day. At present though, I am happy working 9 to 5.
