Kallery.net, is it spam?

Have you been getting a lot of page views from Kallery.net from South Korea? They appear to visit every blog and they really mess up with the stats. Here is my story:

After reading countless articles on how I can earn a six-figure salary through a blog, I have been blogging with a vengeance. Well, not really because I still have not signed up with Adsense and so I am earning nothing from blogging. However, occasionally (mostly when my employer irritates me) I do write several blog posts.

It was a relief to see that at least I had an audience-a whooping 3 views moments after publishing a blog post! I was ecstatic, but wait a minute, all the views are from one source: kallery.net. So South Koreans are finding my content interesting and worth attention?

The first thing I did was to click on the referring URL-can't remember where I ended up (Many bloggers say that they end up at porn galleries which is very weird). My instincts told me to be wary of spam, but I had already clicked on it out of excitement. I did a Google search on the site and found several complaints from bloggers like me who lamented about visits from the site which really messed up with the stats. Apparently, bloggers who use blogspot.com are the main culprits. Some bloggers in Google product forum said that Kallery.net was just interested in advertising products to bloggers.

I slumped into my seat. So I do not have a worthwhile audience after all? Maybe I should still continue writing academic articles and get them A+ grades.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Tom. They are every blogger's nightmare. But I have noticed that they just visit a blog after a post has been published.

    2. Every time I post something new, I get a new hit from kallery.net. There's another one I see sometimes that I'm pretty sure is a similar site.

    3. If it makes you feel better...you are receiving traffic to your blog via google searches for kallery.net. So, in a sense, they did you a favor. The world is odd, isn't it? :) They're trying to use you, and their Karma is that you are benefiting. Go you. Here is another page view that's not spam. Cheers.

    1. As far as I know, kallery.net is spam. I get views from them immediately I publish a new post-guess they visit the post even before it has been indexed! As for blocking them, I do not know if that is possible. Personally I have chosen to ignore them.

  11. Hey I'm a victim of kallery, too. I also get spam from filmhill. After searching about it, I learned that you can report it and it *might* do something.
The link to report it is here

  13. Thanks, I had them on my blog and it's mainly U.S. politics so didn't know what was up. But hey, this post is getting you blog hits!

  14. I too have had them appear on my Blog (Damnit)as well FilmHill I found that they are spam and was given advise to ignore them and they will eventually stop appearing. i was getting 35 FilmHill a week and it is now down to almost none as well as Kalley.net. I was told to ignore them and they will no longer have interest in you if you don't click on them. My Blog is an arts and entertainment blog that gets lots of hits so they don't really affect my stats all that much.

  15. yeah, it seems that many blogs had been visited by the kallery.net, not only mine :)

  16. Thanks for the information I decided to ignore them also.

  17. Google is in mine opinion using robots to fool 'statistics' : examining contents for their information system.
Sometimes when you view visitors: it does not make sense or all visits are reset to Zero (0) and next day upgrade.
Give you the opinion: people actually visit your blog.

    1. Me too. I also get fake views from vampirestat.com. :/ I'm getting sick of them, but I still try to ignore it.

  18. My blog gets often visited by such strange sites. I think, most of these pages use some kind of robots to search all blogspot-blogs they can find. Clicking the links in the stats will confirm your "interest" and will make them return to your blog over and over again ;-) So, just ignore them all :-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Kallery.net got me too!
Also I seem to have quite a few hits when I am editing stuff and going back and forward to 'view blog'. Do you think my hits are all my own? How sad, lol.

    1. yes those are yours. But there is a place where you can tell Google not to track your own page views. It requires knowing something about your service provider. I just use whatever wireless is available to me so it doesn't help me at all. :)

      Delete
    2. Under Stats click on "Don't Track Your Own Page Views" on every browser you use. That stops Google thinking you are a new visitor to your blog. It too get kallery and vampirestat. Very annoying but I think I get a few real people too, and that's a nice surprise.

  21. Thank-you for writing this, it is helping me as a newcomer to blogspot.

  22. thanks for your information,it is help me too

  23. Same thing happened to me too. When I first published my very first blog I got so excited about the view stats, and I was like, "omg! omg! omg!" So I did a little Google search about my traffic sources, then suddenly I was like, "oh, okay..."

Anyways... Keep on writing Mary, I'm pretty sure you'll get a lot of legit views. :D

  24. oh I see, kallery.net needs some attention I guess. I thought they displayed somebody's photo on their website - that's called "hotlinking" and is prohibited on internet.

  25. kallery.net is new to me. But I have been getting some really decent views from google.co.kr- the Korean Google. The thing that used to worry me about all of it is the spam bots. However... typically those are coming from URL shortening sites like Twitter's bitly and the t.co sites.
I did a search for kallery and they do seem a legit site. So now my next concern is why Koreans like my artwork. And are they going to right click and save and start printing my stuff without letting me know?

But don't worry. A blog audience grows very slowly when you are not an A lister like Wil Wheaton. The best way to build a blog is to read other blogs and comment on the sites that you find the most compelling and interesting to you. I only have 17 confirmed readers and I just had my 5th year anniversary. And for every person who reads and comments there will be about 20 who never will. It goes with the territory.

But to cut down on spam bots you need to upgrade your security and run the scans every week. Twice a week if you are super active online. I have not done that yet and I can not get rid of these guys. Am forever scratching my head as to why I am being such a dork.

  26. Yes even I get lot of viewers. But not only from S Korea. I was concerned

  27. Wow, thank you everyone. Me too, was wondering about kallery.net

  28. Yes, thanks to the author of this article, and thanks to all of the commenters. I was confused by the Kallery.net thing too, and I couldn't believe that many people were visiting my blog!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I also got irritated by this kallery.net thing. I checked on their site but it seems to me that its legit. I even signed up to their site & play games on it too.

Probably one of their marketing tactics i think designed for bloggers like us. Btw, i've got visited by them everyday!

Just recently, I also noticed similar activities from vampirestat, adsensewatchdog, and some other unfamiliar russian & europian sites.

    1. Don't make a habit of clicking those links. Sometimes they have viruses. Other times you are rewarding their spam efforts. I know Vampirestat is one that spams you so you will click their link and they get the hits.

  30. I make it a rule never to click links I don't recognize in my traffic source. I Google them for verification, which is how I found you. Thank you for the heads up that it is spam.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah, I didn't bother going there without checking to see what whoever else had to say about it. I guess I won't go there after all. I saw them show up in my referring sites and was hopeful it was something connected to my subject matter and found your site. Oh well. I'm also getting a lot of traffic from vampirestat which I guess is a massive "click-back" scam and I never bothered to go there either. It stinks, doesn't it? :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Pixie: Thanks for your inputs. I guess I must have to stop clicking on it for actual verification.

@RGB: Yeah, like Vampires - vampirestat really sucks!

Please drop-by to my site if you have time. Thanks!

  38. Hello Readers,

My Google Blog, Three Taps for Olga, is about elder abuse and how my elderly mother Olga and I lost our family home because of a criminal home health aid and her attorney. The 100 page blog is about elder abuse. Given that I cannot understand why Kallery showed up today for the first time on my Google stats. Kallery has nothing to do with elder abuse.

  39. Kallery's giving you an advantage. I am a starter and wonder why I get many hits, I was amazed and excited with these sites that gives traffic to mine that fast and so I clicked them even before I researched them. My curiosity about it led me here. I get the most hits from vampirestat.com, also from 7secretsearch.com and adsensewatchdog.com.
